Langmeil Orphan Bank Barossa Shiraz 2019
93/100 The Real Review
"Ink black, fading to a deep purple rim. Mulberry compote, chocolate and cola spice aromas. A big attack of ripe black fruits sends the message of concentration early, it flows into a melange of dark spices, mocha, and char-oak depth. The tannins have a power to their grip that drives and dries out the finish well, bringing focus to what could be an unruly, ripe-fruit concentration...2022–2034 " Stuart Knox
"Orphan Bank is testament to Langmeil’s commitment to preserving old and rare Barossa vineyards. Ten rows of Shiraz planted pre-1860 were saved from the developer’s bulldozer and replanted alongside the original Langmeil vineyard on the banks of the River Para. We called these ten rows the "Orphans" but after 150 years they have a new home.
A rich bouquet of red and blue fruits, herbs and cedar, entwine with hints of sage, roasty and savoury notes. Rich and juicy raspberry and Satsuma plum fill the mouth, with allspice sweetness adding to the mouthfeel. The fruit is well balanced with hints of briary spice and textural, fine-grained tannins on the lengthy finish. Drink 2019 – 2034."
