The wine store with passion

Wine drinking has a very, very important rule: drink what you like! But never be afraid to try something new or different. Wine drinking should be fun, free of much of the garbage that interferes with the rest of our lives. It should be a catalyst for social intercourse. It should be pleasurable and memorable, it should be savoured and discussed, it should be fun.

"Even, light ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues, paler on the edge. The bouquet is full and voluminous with very good depth and well-packed with a complex amalgam of savoury dark-red berry fruits, dark herbs and red florals, unfolding notes of plums, liquorice and minerals. Medium-full bodied, the palate has a mouthfilling array of flavours with savoury dark-red cherry and berry fruit entwined with dark herbs and nuances of earth and minerals, revealing some secondary dried herb and undergrowth complexities. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin extract providing grip. The palate is full and dense, with soft acidity allowing the structure to prevail. The wine has considerable underlying power, carrying the flavours to an ethereal finish with complex savoury fruit, herb and undergrowth notes. This is a rich, powerful and concentrated Pinot Noir with complex layers of savoury fruit, herbs and minerals, now showing secondary development interest..."

"Bright, pale straw colour, very light on the rim. The nose is very fresh with bright and vibrant aromas of pungent passionfruit, with tropical fruit notes and fresh herbs...Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is elegant and finely proportioned with good depth and intensity of pungent passionfruit flavours with tropical fruits and fresh herbs...The mouthfeel is fresh, crisp and zesty with fine lacy and brisk acidity...This is an elegant, but concentrated Sauvignon Blanc with intense passionfruit, tropical fruit, herb and snow pea flavours with subtle nettle notes on a brisk, racy palate. "The palate is full bodied and rich while retaining great balance. Browned butter, toasted cashew and canned peach notes all add interest. These layers of richness come mainly from perfectly ripened grapes, sweet French oak barrels and warm fermentation temperatures. A touch of pithy texture and acidity keep this richness in check."

"On the nose there are pronounced aromas of stonefruit, lychees and pear drops, underpinned with honey suckle and tropical spices. It is full-bodied, concentrated and unctuous in the mouth with tangy hint of root ginger. The earlier picked fruit adds freshness and satisfying acidity, while the noble botrytis and lees aging have increased the mouth feel and complexity of this wine."

"Svelte, sturdy, plump, you name it. There's ample tannin here but the fruit sweeps through it. This is a ripping Barossa/Eden Shiraz. As generous as it is refined; as neat as it is ribald. Blackberry, roasted plums, cloves, mint, dark chocolate and a rush of boysenberry. Both grunty and succulent." It's a beauty.

Anchor Bay Nelson Pinot Noir 2017

$14.99

To quote an old wine industry line: "Pinot Noir this good should never be this inexpensive."
We had the pleasure of trying a set of wines recently. The last two wines were Pinot Noir's. The seconds cost price was almost triple the firsts. You guessed it; the first one was the star. Yes it was lighter and yes unlike the second one it wasn't from Central Otago and have a bag of really top medals.
Colour: Bright, ruby red.
Nose: Loads of cherry and plum
Palate: Rounded, soft, elegant and smooth. Sweet plums and cherries with chocolate and vanilla notes in the back ground. Very charming and inviting.
As a hint, over these hot days slightly chill it; you'll be delighted.
With over our 20 plus years in business Pinot Noirs this good at this price are a rarity. A lighter Pinot Noir that is beautifully formed. It was bound for Australia. Their loss, is our gain.
