The wine store with passion

Wine drinking has a very, very important rule: drink what you like! But never be afraid to try something new or different. Wine drinking should be fun, free of much of the garbage that interferes with the rest of our lives. It should be a catalyst for social intercourse. It should be pleasurable and memorable, it should be savoured and discussed, it should be fun.

Outright winner for the lovers of the smooth, rounded chocolate and rich berryfruit style, where there are spicy hints but spicy is the compliment not the main course. Here its about rich fruit and being reflected in history.
We rate this wine extremely highly, not only for its value, but its quality is simply super.

"Shiraz from the northern end of the Barossa Valley. It tastes sweet, deep and essential. Sweet with berried fruit, deep of toast and earth, essential sump oil characters completing a luxurious display of Barossa shiraz. Oak has been folded seamlessly in, as though it was always there. Tannin too is in synch. You’ll see vanilla, violet, malt and mint characters here if go looking but chances are, if you enjoy Barossa shiraz, you’ll be too busy sinking into its loveliness."

Anchor Bay Nelson Pinot Noir 2017

$13.99

To quote an old wine industry line: "Pinot Noir this good should never be this inexpensive."
We had the pleasure of trying a set of wines recently. The last two wines were Pinot Noir's. The seconds cost price was almost triple the firsts. You guessed it; the first one was the star. Yes it was lighter and yes unlike the second one it wasn't from Central Otago and have a bag of really top medals.
Colour: Bright, ruby red.
Nose: Loads of cherry and plum
Palate: Rounded, soft, elegant and smooth. Sweet plums and cherries with chocolate and vanilla notes in the back ground. Very charming and inviting.
As a hint, over these hot days slightly chill it; you'll be delighted.
With over our 20 plus years in business Pinot Noirs this good at this price are a rarity. A lighter Pinot Noir that is beautifully formed. It was bound for Australia. Their loss, is our gain.

Fromm Cuvee H Marlborough Pinot Noir 2016

$58.99

Very Rare Super Star Pinot Noir
5 Stars The Wine Advocate
5 Stars Bob Campbell MW
5 Star Raymond Chan

Another label with only a short history but from a winery and winemaker with a long and illustrious history (in New Zealand terms anyway). Named after winemaker Hätsch Kalberer, this wine reflects his 25 years of knowledge and understanding of several great Marlborough terroirs. A thoughtful composite of Fromm's five individual single vineyard wines, Cuvée “H” expresses a winery signature and represents "the best Pinot we feel we can make."
5 Stars 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit "This is totally charming and irresistibly delicious. Plump, fleshy and succulent, the wine exhibits red/black cherry, blueberry compote, floral, cedar and fragrant spice characters on the nose with a hint of dried herb complexity. It is mouthfilling and velvety on the palate with fabulous fruit purity and richness within a classic structure provided by an abundance of polished tannins. Multi-layered and symphonic, a glorious expression combining fruits from five single vineyards. At its best: 2019 to 2028."
5 Stars 95/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review "The second vintage of a new label named after Fromm winemaker, Hätsch Kalberer. Taut, pure pinot noir with dark cherry, blackcurrant, violet and subtle herbal flavours supported by fine and integrated tannins. An impressive wine with a Fromm signature."
5 Stars Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"A hint of cedar accents maraschino cherries on the nose, followed by a medium-bodied wine of exceptional texture and purity. The silky tannins linger on the finish, mingling with red berries in an exciting fruity-savoury tango."

"There's a spread of this wine that is beyond the norm. It hits and flows, in a satisfying way, but when it hits what might be the finish it fans out impressively. The extra kick of flavour - you could simply call it 'quality'- that we're all hoping for but rarely receive; it's on beautiful display here..."

Moutere Hills Nelson 2017 Chardonnay

$25.99

4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper’s Wine Companion 2019. He said…
“The single-vineyard 2017 vintage was estate grown at Upper Moutere, hand-picked and fermented and matured for 11 months in French Oak Barrels. Pale gold, it is flashy and rich with fresh citrusy, peach flavours, toasty notes adding complexity, balanced acidity, and loads of flavour. A tight, age worthy wine, it’s worth discovering.”
The Reserve version got 5 stars and is $55.00 a bottle, we preferred this one Big Time!
Michael Cooper say’s this wine is worth discovering for $35 dollars. At this price is a steal. A great Chardonnay with peachy body, charm and immense drinkability that will cellar.

"Alive when first poured, there's plenty of excitement coming from the aroma spectrum though things are then more muted in the mouth. Aromas of tonic, cucumber, fresh lemon juice, green melon and lemongrass - you see what I mean... Passionfruit and cut herb come in to play in the mouth. Clean and crisp, there's no denying its refreshment factor." Q Wine
This review is not only well written it really describes the wine well. Brilliant Buying.

Tin Cottage Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2018

$14.99

New Edition of the perennial favourite.
From an Australian retail site that I thought really describes the wine, so much better than we ever could.
"Tin Cottage may be text book Marlborough in style but what it lacks in innovation it more than atones for in quality. A fun, unassuming wine filled with loads of passion fruit, pineapple and melon."
Superb Value.

A real crowd favourite. The 2017 is back to that lovely style, off-dry with aromas of pear and stone-fruits. A clean, crisp palate with flavours of white nectarine and pear. Lightly oaked with a luscious full-bodied mouth-feel and long finish.
A real gem; guaranteed to please.

We recently tried this wine and thought it one of the first 'Yummy Rated' discoveries of 2019. Beautifully developed in a lush, juicy style. Classic Turkish delight, a round balanced palate that screams out for you to drink another glass. The vineyard describes it very well indeed...
"Pale straw with clear hues. Aromas of Turkish delight/rose petal and lychee on the nose along with floral orange blossom, stone fruit and pink grapefruit. Sweet ripe stone fruit, lychee and melon flavours show on the palate. A dry style wine which is full bodied and mouth filling on the mid-palate sweet fruit and spice showing on the finish."

Always one of the top medium Rieslings, also a wine that very much goes under the radar. Grapefruit blossom, mandarin and lime zest with a mineral note are key elements of the nose and the palate. An expressive delight.
Fresh citrus and clover honey flavours explode on the palate. It's residual sugar gives a lovely sweetness on the mid palate, as with all great medium Riesling the finish is dry.

"Pepper and berries and cherries and all things merries. This is a cracker of a syrah with a ripe core of black fruits, violets, buckets of spice and a hint of cocoa. Made by Tim Adams from a small parcel of fruit from a vineyard located in the sun-trap of Ohiti Road AND, it’s bottled unfined and un-filtered. Vege, vegan and coeliac friendly.
