The wine store with passion

Wine drinking has a very, very important rule: drink what you like! But never be afraid to try something new or different. Wine drinking should be fun, free of much of the garbage that interferes with the rest of our lives. It should be a catalyst for social intercourse. It should be pleasurable and memorable, it should be savoured and discussed, it should be fun.

"Shiraz from the northern end of the Barossa Valley. It tastes sweet, deep and essential. Sweet with berried fruit, deep of toast and earth, essential sump oil characters completing a luxurious display of Barossa shiraz. Oak has been folded seamlessly in, as though it was always there. Tannin too is in synch. You’ll see vanilla, violet, malt and mint characters here if go looking but chances are, if you enjoy Barossa shiraz, you’ll be too busy sinking into its loveliness."

“Fruit sourced from the Seaview, Whites Valley, McLaren Flat and Maslin districts. Deep and intense in colour, the bouquet is similarly brooding. Aromas of dark fruit, earth, chocolate and spice are there, but take some coaxing to emerge. Not massive, but thickly textured, almost palate coating, the flavours are all ripe fruit and warmth, the tannins inky and dry.”

"Brilliant deep magenta. Fragrant primary aromas of blackcurrant are highlighted with nuances of dark chocolate, fennel and bay leaf. The ripe blackberry and blueberry flavours are framed by fine, cedary oak and linger on the long finish. The textured tannins and savoury elements combine with the dark berry fruit to complete this medium to full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon."

This great little Shiraz was a Huge Hit earlier in the year. Shiraz pure, simple and very good indeed.
Gold & Best Value 2019 China Wine & Spirits Awards
Deep plum with a crimson hue with a lifted bouquet of raspberry, plum, mulberry and blackberry. Bright and juicy with plum and dark berry fruits. The succulent and rich fruit is wrapped in fine tannins. This wine has lovely weight and balance.
The McLaren Vale vintage of 2017 was rated the best of all the South Australian sub regions, hence such great wine at such a small price.

Beach House The Track Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay 2018

$28.99

New Release
If you like the Beach House Selection Chardonnay 2018 you'll love this one. It is in our opinion the best under this label ever; and there have been some very, very good ones.
Bright in colour, super nose with tropical fruit hints, brioche, and mealy notes. Instantly appealing in the mouth, pineapple, oatmeal, long and complex. Smooth and mouthfilling, with that "I need another sip" morishness.
Bound to be long-lived and for some super accolades. Get in before the secret is out.

New Release
Previous versions of this wine have done extremely well, with the 2017 receiving 4 1/2 Stars Top 10 Cuisine in 2018. Now to the 2018 - in our opinion the best in years and years. Deliciously drinkable now with the ability to age for 5 or more years.
A wonderful balance of citrusy, mealy fruit with a bright palate flow. Vibrant, lovely stone fruit flavours with delicacy and depth. Subtle oak, impressive complexity and harmony complete the picture.

Terra Sancta Lola’s Block Central Otago Pinot Gris 2017

$28.99

5 Stars Bob Campbell
4.5 Stars Michael Cooper

"The distinctive 2017 vintage was estate-grown, hand-harvested, and fermented and matured in seasoned French oak puncheons. Pale straw, it is mouthfilling, with concentrated, ripe, peachy, spicy flavours, slightly toasty notes adding complexity, fresh acidity, and a dry (2 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. Drink now or cellar." Michael Cooper

Maison Noire Hawkes Bay Chenin Blanc 2018

$25.99

4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper
"The distinctive, youthful 2018 vintage is a dry style, fermented in French oak casks (30 per cent new). Bright, light lemon/green, it is fragrant and mouthfilling, with vibrant, citrusy, peachy, slightly biscuity flavours, showing excellent depth, ripeness and complexity, finely balanced acidity and obvious cellaring potential. Best drinking 2021+." Michael Cooper
"If you’re looking for the perfect wine sip while nibbling on Gougeres (or any sort of sexy, cheesy pastry-encased morsel), then look no further than the shiny, new Maison Noire Hawke’s Bay.
Golden, glossy in the glass and heaving with crisp, lip-smacking acidity, toasted coconut and grapefruit characters alongside roasted apples and all manner of mineral-induced magic in the mouth. Chenin Blanc hails from the Loire Valley in France (which is where its winemaker Guillaume Thomas is also from) yet it’s clearly made a happy home in Hawke’s Bay Tuki Tuki Valley and we should make it welcome."

Maison Noire Hawke’s Bay Cabernet Franc 2015

$21.99

4 Stars Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
"Cabernet Franc is just the sexiest wee red grape, and yet it’s very rarely made into wine on its own. Crafted by Guillaume Thomas from his tiny vineyard on the Waimarama Road, this new 2015 vintage is ultra-floral and rock-solid with spices and racy, raspberry/cranberry characters. The tannins are lithe and slippery and silk-lined. Think pomegranate and plum layers on the finish and an easy, plush mouthfeel. It’s a lighter-styled sip but perfect for gamey dishes like duck casserole or tender, smoky venison backstraps." Yvonne Lorkin

Beach House Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2016

$19.99

"A very spicy Syrah indeed – you could fill a spice rack with the number of different spices emanating from the glass. Cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, cumin, allspice, posh spice (wait a minute…?). Along with the spice come black berries and red currants.
Judicious use of oak allows the fruit to shine in an elegant style of Syrah that is not only delicious but devilishly drinkable. What more could you ask for in a Gimblett Gravels Syrah? Enjoy now until it’s gone because this never lasts for long. But if you were to attempt cellaring it will gain interest and complexity well into the 2020’s."

When we first tried this wine we instantly loved its elegance, refinement and power. in the past the Beach House Syrah's have often been about muscle over finesse. This one makes a great shift.
This is a delicious New Zealand Syrah from a top vintage. Medium bodied beautifully structured with great appeal.

Beach House Gimblett Gravels Reserve Merlot 2015

$19.99

A standard bearer for yummy Merlot
"...Our 2015 Reserve Merlot is a barrel selection of our finest Merlot and was made up of 18% new French oak. It has intense aromatics of black doris plum and blackberries intermingling with earthy spice and cinnamon. The aroma’s on this wine are already very complex upon its release and will only continue to evolve over time. Rich and mouth-filling across the palate with penetrating flavours of plums and spice all beautifully held together by just the right amount of fine French oak.
This Merlot is a stunner and one that we are proud to call our own. Merlot’s making a comeback and this is one of the reasons why. Enjoy 2015 Reserve Merlot though to 2025 and beyond."

The Winery have got it so right, an under rated gem.

Maimai Hawkes Bay Merlot 2014

$15.99

Last year we featured the 2013 vintage. It was a hit. The 2014 follows in these footsteps brilliantly. After 5 years the savoury notes of Merlot with a great dollop of Cabernet Franc really shine. The underlying blackberry and dark plum fruit with hints of chocolate, liquorice and spice add to the appeal. Medium bodied with structure and depth. Great drinking over the next two to three years.

Askerne Hawkes Bay Syrah 2014

$14.99

4 ½ Stars Wine Orbit
"Using a combination of estate and off-site fruit has enabled us to produce a Syrah of purity and vibrancy. Suggestions of blueberry and cranberry define the nose along with a savoury complexity from extended barrel aging on full lees. This savouriness also contributes weight to the palate, the textural edge comes from suave and supple skin tannins. Enjoy now of cellar for 3-5 years."
