The wine store with passion
Wine drinking has a very, very important rule: drink what you like! But never be afraid to try something new or different. Wine drinking should be fun, free of much of the garbage that interferes with the rest of our lives. It should be a catalyst for social intercourse. It should be pleasurable and memorable, it should be savoured and discussed, it should be fun.

Anchor Bay Nelson Pinot Noir 2017
To quote an old wine industry line: "Pinot Noir this good should never be this inexpensive."
We had the pleasure of trying a set of wines recently. The last two wines were Pinot Noir's. The seconds cost price was almost triple the firsts. You guessed it; the first one was the star. Yes it was lighter and yes unlike the second one it wasn't from Central Otago and have a bag of really top medals.
Colour: Bright, ruby red.
Nose: Loads of cherry and plum
Palate: Rounded, soft, elegant and smooth. Sweet plums and cherries with chocolate and vanilla notes in the back ground. Very charming and inviting.
As a hint, over these hot days slightly chill it; you'll be delighted.
With over our 20 plus years in business Pinot Noirs this good at this price are a rarity. A lighter Pinot Noir that is beautifully formed. It was bound for Australia. Their loss, is our gain.

South River Reserve 2017 Central Otago Pinot Noir
New Limited Release
"Beautifully fruited and fragrant, the bouquet shows dark plum, cherry, vanilla, toasted hazelnut and warm spice characters. The palate is succulent and rounded, displaying attractive fruit intensity and smooth texture, firmly structured by chalky tannins."
This comment is from the winery. It is spot on. I haven't seen a better value Central Otago Pinot Noir for some time. Juicy and vibrant, smooth and long. Fresh and moreish.
we had this wine pre-Christmas and sold so quickly it didn't make an email.

Finca Constancia Altozano Tempranillo 2016
You have to love this wine. Great Tempranillo characteristics, juicy and moreish. Spicy dark fruit flavours in a medium body. The quality price ratio is very balanced on the quality side. If you'd like to experience this grape without having to hit the big monetary notes this is the wine to start with.

Trophy for Champion Pinot Gris NZIWS 2018

“The bouquet hints of honeysuckle, ginger and vanilla poached pear that join white peach and spice in the beautifully textured, lightly viscous palate. Impressively focussed, just on the cusp of off dry, with beautifully balanced savoury tones.” NZIWS

Tin Cottage Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2018
New Edition of the perennial favourite.
From an Australian retail site that I thought really describes the wine, so much better than we ever could.
"Tin Cottage may be text book Marlborough in style but what it lacks in innovation it more than atones for in quality. A fun, unassuming wine filled with loads of passion fruit, pineapple and melon."

Saint Clair Marlborough Pioneer Block 9 Big John Riesling 2017
Blue Gold Medal Sydney International Wine Competition 2018
Gold Medal Best in Category Decanter World Wine Awards 2017
Gold Medal Sydney International Wine Competition 2017
Always one of the top medium Rieslings, also a wine that very much goes under the radar. Grapefruit blossom, mandarin and lime zest with a mineral note are key elements of the nose and the palate. An expressive delight.
Fresh citrus and clover honey flavours explode on the palate. It's residual sugar gives a lovely sweetness on the mid palate, as with all great medium Riesling the finish is dry.

Yalumba Barossa Valley Galway Shiraz, 2016
5 Stars Wine Orbit
4 stars, 91 points, Bob Campbell, MW
“This Shiraz shows all the hallmarks of a traditional Barossa red wine. It is deep in colour with crimson hues. There are aromas of mulberries, Black Forest cake and liquorice allsorts that speak of its varietal and regional origins. The palate is ripe and generous with flavours of mulberries, dark chocolate and hints of beetroot. It finishes with cocoa powder like tannins that give evenness and generosity to the wine. A fine wine to be enjoyed now but will reward two to five years cellaring.”

Opawa Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2018
Gold Medal NZ Wine of the Year 2018
Gold Medal Bob Campbell MW
Silver Medal NZIWS 2018
"Alive when first poured, there's plenty of excitement coming from the aroma spectrum though things are then more muted in the mouth. Aromas of tonic, cucumber, fresh lemon juice, green melon and lemongrass - you see what I mean... Passionfruit and cut herb come in to play in the mouth. Clean and crisp, there's no denying its refreshment factor." Q Wine
This review is not only super well written it really, really described the wine well. Brilliant Buying.
Clearview Sea Red NV Fortified Red
Always a star, everyone's favourite Clearview wine ( Don't tell the Chardonnay lovers that)
Clearview Say it so well themselves...
"The classic Clearview meal finisher, a fortified red wine style pioneered by Tim. A red dessert wine with a weighty palate oily with dense berry fruits and plum; followed by an unctuous rich but dry finish. Drink now for a fruitier style or cellar carefully for several years."

92 Pts James Suckling. He said...
"Ayala is looking very good and offers some genuine depth and complexity for this entry-level pinot-dominant blend, driving impressive concentration into a savory and defined style. On the palate, this offers up dried-red-cherry fruits, gentle spices and smooth, zesty bite. It finishes with precise, nutty tannin." James Suckling

Beso Chilean 2015 Merlot
If ever there was a case of the ugly duckling becoming a beautiful swan it is this wine. We promoted and sold a HUGE amount of the 2014. Shortly afterward the 2015 was released and to be frank, we were disappointed. Sweet, jubie fruit with a charming yet unconvincing structure; pleasant BUT move on twenty or so months and WOW. This is really top flight wine in the mid twenty to thirty dollar price bracket, if it came from Aotearoa. But it comes from Chile and is an absolute steal .
From its ruby colour with a splash of bright violet. To it’s a robust deep palate overflowing with a seductive mix of berry fruits and plum.
Super charming in a medium mould, ideal drinking if you’re a Merlot or deeper Pinot Noir fan. The spring and summer wonder red.

Darling Cellars Cinful South African Cinsault
A treat from the makers of the Chocoholic Pinotage. Made from one of the two parent grapes of Pinotage, a cross of Pinot Noir and Cinsault. Texturally smooth and on the line between light and medium. Hints of spice wrapped around cherry, plum fruit.
Its age gives it extra lushness, like its sister wine full of character and drinkability. A rare opportunity to try something a little left field.
