The wine store with passion

Wine drinking has a very, very important rule: drink what you like! But never be afraid to try something new or different. Wine drinking should be fun, free of much of the garbage that interferes with the rest of our lives. It should be a catalyst for social intercourse. It should be pleasurable and memorable, it should be savoured and discussed, it should be fun.

Finca Constancia Parcela 23 Tempranillo 2015

$18.99

Double Gold Medal Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards 2016
".. Previous vintages of this wine have taken out the No.1 position in Cuisine magazine and numerous gold medals here in NZ and of course further abroad. Made in a rich and ripe style, it is deep and powerful with big fruits and gorgeous structure. Finca Constancia is owned by the famous sherry house of González Byass and the vineyard is situated not far from Toledo. The winery says... "Made from a selection of the finest Tempranillo grapes from Parcel 23 of the Finca Constancia vineyard, this intense cherry-red wine has been aged in French and American oak barrels that add soft vanilla tones to its abundant fleshy fruit flavours. Full-bodied?and harmonious with great structure and length. Finca Constancia is divided into 70 parcels of land, which are harvested and vinified separately, so that wines are fully traceable and can be produced from a single plot. Finca Constancia Parcela 23 is a single-variety wine (100% Tempranillo), from a parcel of land specially selected because it produces the best Tempranillo, with the most fruit and the best structure. It has undergone malolactic fermentaion in new French and American oak barrels for 6 months. It is a deep cherry-red, with a purple rim. On the nose, Tempranillo grapes and pronounced red fruit, with spice from the cask. On the palate, powerful, flavoursome and well-structured."Vino Fino

Fromm Spätlese Marlborough Riesling 2016

$19.99

92 points James Suckling. He said...
"A very handy wine that plays the reductive game well. Plenty of fresh apple and lime fruits. Off-dry, long and refreshing. Drink now."
"This wine is light bodied, low in alcohol and floral in flavour with a sweet taste that’s balanced by its high acidity. The naturally high acid of Riesling cuts through all the rich flavours, leaving you with a refreshingly, crisp and seemingly off dry finish. This is a wine that drinks beautifully now, lightly chilled, as an after work glass or even at lunch time on a non working day."
Joelle Thomson
"An energetic yet focussed Riesling, our 2016 Spätlese expresses alluring flinty aromas supported by hints of granny smith apples, lime zest and orange blossom florals. The palate is generous and juicy, however it’s the wine’s precise structure that defines it. A sweet, aperitif style Riesling with tasty fruit acidity that leaves the palate cleansed after each mouthful." -The Winery

Te Taha Martinborough Pinot Noir 2015

$19.99

A Genuine Export Label that didn't hit the UK. Made by Larry McKenna, the Master of Martinborough Pinot Noir and his Escarpment Winery. This was destine for M & S Marks & Spencer.
This wine very much on savoury side. It is well balanced with a long smooth finish. Spice elements on the mid palate with dark berry and red cherry characters.
With the ability to age for two to three years and its super fit with food this wine has characters that set it aside from many others at its price point.

"Yalumba's Eden Valley Viognier bottling rivals the brand's Virgilius bottling in varietal expression, even if it's not as ripe or rich. Gingery spice and floral notes bring a dimension of complexity without oak, and the wine's fruit remains citrusy, fresh and focused through the long finish."

Cottier Estate Gladstone ‘Emily’ Chardonnay 2016

$21.99

Over the years we have discovered the occasional gem of a wine often where you last expect it. In the 2016 we have the best example of this wine yet.
Peachy ripe; full and intense; lush and lovely. Great now with three of four years cellaring in the future. Its a winner.
From the winery: The fruit for this wine was harvested from our own vineyard at Dakins Road, Gladstone. After an excellent growing season, the wine was processed by traditional means, to finally display good complexity fullness and balance. As is our traditional, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation to soften the acidity and impart the creamy texture and fullness on the palate. Coloured pale gold and giving hints of peaches, citrus this wine will surely please the connoisseur of Chardonnay varietal wines.

Simply Lovely new release Chianti. Smooth with a powerful yet elegant finish. Polished and extremely classy.
"Ruby red in color with purple highlights, the wine offers spicy aromas along with notes of red fruit which recall cherries. The palate is fragrant and is endowed with a texture of supple tannins. The finish and aftertaste bring back the notes of red fruit first felt on the nose."

"This is a fascinating expression. It has depth, calmness and flows with a creamy ease. The fruit is holding well, with fresh herbal dabs (sage, sweet hay) offsetting a settled harmonious core. Soft acidity and a touch of oak give it roundness. A delicious wine that would be an excellent summer aperitif."
Drinking beautifully at the moment. Rounded and full, with bundles of charm and delighful balance. A little different - yes; better for it - maybe. Sauvignon Blanc with a little bit of age can sometime be a revelation. This is one such wine.

"Organically grown by Geoff and Nicola Wright, the founders and proprietors of this Gisborne label, this chardonnay excited the panel. It’s an exuberant, big style, offering lifted, smoky, struck match notes and what John Belsham described as “creamy, spicy, warm ripe fruit”. Try it alongside a leek and feta tart."

"Enjoyable young, the 2016 vintage was hand-harvested from four sites...barrel-fermented and given a full, softening malolactic fermentation. Bright, light lemon/green with a fragrant, slightly buttery bouquet. It is weighty with rich peachy flavours, showing good complexity and a creamy-smooth finish. Drink now or cellar."
Year after year this super wine is an absolute winner. The 2016 is no exception. In fact it might be one of the very best yet. Bright citrus fruit, mealy complexity and wonderfully approachable very early, it has the ability to age for a very long time. 2016 was a super Hawkes Bay vintage and it shows in this wine.
When we first tasted this wine with the Beach House Reserve Chardonnays: The Levels and The Track from 2016 we were impressed with its quality, it was right up there with the big brothers that sell for over $30.00. This wine is extremely classy and will reward cellaring.

"One of the winemaker's true and trusted friends that has attracted a legion of followers. The latest drop is once again a full flavoured easy drinking red representing excellent value for money." 2015 was an outstanding vintage in South Australia. This wine has all the great hallmarks of both its vintage and it’s maker: robust, full, highly cellar-worthy and down right unbelievable value.
"Good solid regional Shiraz. Black fruits, cut flowers and polished leather ,aniseed and briar. Full bodied, good density and chew to the thick tannin, a core of black fruits, dark chocolate on a pretty long finish. Rock solid. " Gary Walsh The Wine Front
"There's plenty of oomph. Black fruit, dark chocolate, licorice and tilled black earth. Sift a little deeper and there's some prettier fruit in the form of blueberries. A consistent plummy drive motors along in this medium to full bodied red aimed to satisfy. Drink now to ten years." Steve Leszczynski QWine
