The wine store with passion

Wine drinking has a very, very important rule: drink what you like! But never be afraid to try something new or different. Wine drinking should be fun, free of much of the garbage that interferes with the rest of our lives. It should be a catalyst for social intercourse. It should be pleasurable and memorable, it should be savoured and discussed, it should be fun.

Deep red in colour, the nose is vibrant with lots of black berry fruits, violet florals, hints of clove spice and touches of pepper. A burst of berry fruits on the palate framed with lovely fine grained tannins. Juicy dark plum and berry flavours are long and persistent with a great sweet spice lift to finish.

New Release
"...This wine shows a bright garnet red with a violet hue in the glass...The nose opens with lifted notes of blackcurrant and blackberry aromatics, with subtle savoury notes of garden herbs, turned earth and spice.
...The palate displays generous red and blackcurrant fruit gently shaped by soft, silky tannin. Hints of liquorice, tobacco and savoury oak add further character to a wine packed with bright fruit flavours. A moreish wine which can be enjoyed now or will reward cellaring for 5 years."

An absolute favourite year in year out. This one will not disappoint.

NWWA 2017 95 Points Gold

"The Barry Brothers 2014 stood out from the crowd on last year’s Roadshow and this was not only because of its garish capsule! This year, the fruit is every bit as joyous, but there is more noticeable tannin and spice on board and I think that this label is coming of age. With a glossy texture, some tobacco notes and some oak coming into view, there is an awful lot of wine here for the cash involved. Decanted this would drink well now, but left alone to mellow I think it would be at its peak in another three or four years such is the calibre of tannins on display..."
Every vintage of this wine has shone. This one is the best yet. As good as any of this blend at an incredible price.

Cottier Estate Gladstone ‘Emily’ Chardonnay 2016

$21.99

Over the years we have discovered the occasional gem of a wine often where you least expect it or when you've given up hope. In the 2016 we have the best example of this wine yet.
Peachy ripe; full and intense; lush and lovely. Great now with three of four years cellaring in the future. It’s a winner.
From the winery: The fruit for this wine was harvested from our own vineyard at Dakins Road, Gladstone. After an excellent growing season, the wine was processed by traditional means, to finally display good complexity fullness and balance. As is our traditional, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation to soften the acidity and impart the creamy texture and fullness on the palate. Coloured pale gold and giving hints of peaches, citrus this wine will surely please the connoisseur of varietal Chardonnay wines.

“This single-vineyard wine is hand-harvested at Bendigo, in Central Otago. The 2014 vintage (5*) is a highly scented, vibrantly fruity wine, made in a medium style (33 grams/litre of residual sugar), with complexity gained by fermenting 25 per cent of the blend with indigenous yeasts in old French oak barrels. Fleshy, with concentrated, citrusy, limey flavours, appetising acidity and a rich, finely poised finish, it's already delicious, but likely to be at its best 2017+." Michael Cooper

"Bright, light straw-yellow colour with some depth, paler edged. This has an elegantly concentrated and finely poised nose with an array of fresh aromatics at the core, showing white and yellow stonefruits, nuances of exotic florals and rose-petals, along with suggestions of honeysuckle, fermentation esters and mineral elements. Dryish to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is finely concentrated with aromatic white and yellow stonefruits lifted by exotic florals, rose-petal elements and complexing nutty and flinty nuances. The palate has depth...lacy acidity...a long and lingering finish of stonefruits and florals...Hand-picked Pinot Gris fruit..."
